The VOID today announced plans to open two new VOID Experience Centers™ (VECs) in partnership with retail real estate company GGP Inc. in early 2018. Since it hit the scene in 2016, Oculus Rift has been the standard for high-end VR done right. Tech giants immediately loved the clean and user-friendly system, using it to wow early techies and nerds with wallets ripe for the picking. Fast forward to today, where we find prices slashed in half by the acceleration of the technology and the options in the VR headset category.
Let’s talk about VR Ready and what it means when the term is attached to personal computers. Much like a rocking sound system, it is better when installed in a new higher-end vehicle, than strapped to a moped with duct tape and a battery. So if you want to impress your retinas, you might need to splurge on the right PC that’s ready for the next-step in computing.
That’s right, they’ve finally accomplished it, technology has finally found a way to harness the power, of cardboard!
To begin with, in regards to Windows Mixed Reality headset, the “Mixed Reality” part of its name is currently more of a branding and selling point, than an actuality right now. Microsoft does have HoloLens technology on the way that we are very excited about, but it is not ready for the masses, quite yet.
If you want to dip your mid-range toe into the VR World and happen to own a Samsung Galaxy phone, then the Samsung Gear VR headset and motion controller should be on your wish list.
The next step in Mixed Reality isn’t necessarily a huge leap in technology away, perhaps it’s just the application and merging of current technologies. With that in mind comes the Occipital Bridge! A VR Headset merged with a Structure sensor and topped off with a wide angle lens and your smartphone. In non-tech terms, “Let’s sandwich all this cool stuff together and make it work!”
